Discovering Valle dei Templi

The Valle dei Templi is located close to the Agrigento historical city center and it is among the world’s greatest testimonies of the Hellenistic heritage remaining on the Italian territory. For this reason, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage in 1997.

Founded in 581 a.C., large 1300 hectares, it is the highest archaeological park today in Europe. Of the ancient city of Akgras, the original nucleus of the city of Agrigento, today it is possible to visit its ten temples, as well as its sanctuaries, necropolis, fortifications and other ruins.

The Tempio della Concordia is the heart of Valle dei Templi. Stayed almost internally preserved since its construction, this monument was used as Christian church in 6th century, 13 meters tall and supported by 78 columns more than six meters tall.

The Temple of Heracles is the most enduring of all the temples. Of the original 38 columns, nine can be seen, reconstructed using the original pieces found in the area. Nearby is the Tomb of Theron, a fascinating burial monument dating back to Roman times.

Immerse yourself in the history and evocative beauty of the various monuments at Valle dei Templi, the walk in the history in one of the largest archaeological parks in the world is an experience not to be missed.
